Casio Island! (Casio MT-400v Keyboard Demo)

When I was 14, back in the 80s, I got my first electronic keyboard- a Casio MT-100. I made lots of rudimentary dual cassette deck overdub recordings with it, little sketches of tunes that usually were never developed. I lent my MT-100 to years ago and never got it back, but recently I bought a Casio MT-400v at a garage sale. It has all the same sounds/functions as the MT-100, plus a much needed analog filter section!

This is a new recording of one of my original Casio tunes called “Casio Island” with my MT-400v. I didn’t use the analog filter here, because I never had it on the MT-100 back in the day, and I wanted this version to be as close to the original as possible, just with better recording technology.

Recently I used this Casio in a live cover version of Yaz’s “Nobody’s Diary” with Marie Haddad singing. We just finished making a proper recording of it, again using only the Casio, though I used the computer to cheat alot! You can hear it at http://www.myspace.com/mariehaddad (5th song down).

You can hear the original version of Casio Island in all its -hissy glory here:

Ye Mera Dil – Don (2006) on Yamaha PSR E403 keyboard

It has been long since I posted my last video. Today I was thinking of killing a little time, so came up with this. I have played the song after listening the newer version of it i.e. in Don 2006. I have done mistakes, but I am satisfied given a very short time in which it was made.

Hope u enjoy.

Please leave your comments, rating and subscribe the video.

I shall be putting more videos soon.

P.S. : I thank my friend Mandar Patil for his help in line-in recording.

Electronic Music Appreciation Visualisation

This video and electronic music medley is a reworking of an earlier compilation, using new video material, imagery and music. The work is a celebration of electronic and computer-based music composition and technologies. In four main parts, the piece depicts electronic hardware interfaces, electronic synthesis theory images and relationships, keyboards and performance tools, then finally a collage of multivision features. Many analogue and digital devices are featured, mainly from the 1980s period of experimentation and research. The Fairlight CMI is featured, along with sounds from the Synclavier system from New England Digital. Quite alot of EMS equipment is featured, including the EMS VCS3 and the inspiring Synthi 100 – the largest analogue modular synthesizer produced and probably the rarest being demonstrated at the BBC Radiophonic in 1979. Other images include equipment from Arp, Alesis, Buchla, Korg and Yamaha. The Moog modular is played with other custom keyboard synthesizers, sequences and waveform analysis equipment. Many film sources are used in this compilation, including video and image to electronic sound production and effects. Other video sources depict demonstrations of audio production equipment. Film sources include the BBC documentary The New Sound of Music and from the United States, Discovering Electronic Music. I would also like to thank Marc Doty from Automatic Gainsay for allowing to use excerpts of imagery depicting analogue synthesizer hardware in the first part of this compilation. The music comprises automatically-generated music by Roxio , electronic tone samples, some electronic keyboard samples cut and multi-layered with the last sequence composed on the Korg R3 synthesizer.

Casio PT-100 keyboard (NOT circuit-bent!)

Here I give a quick (and quite amateurish — I am not a good keyboard player by any means!) demonstration of my Casio PT-100 keyboard. It is ALL ORIGINAL and NOT modified or “circuit bent” in any way, unlike almost all the other Casio keyboards you’ll find shown on YouTube!

From the late ’80, the PT-100 was one of the last and most advanced Casio keyboards to use exclusively multi-pulse squarewave sounds… *not* FM synthesis or digital samples! It also features Casio Chord with percussion accompaniment, which also makes some very nice retro-style synthesized electronic sounds, especially the “zizz” sound of the hi-hat cymbal.

I just wish they made a bigger keyboard with the same electronics, because I really like its sounds (both keyboard voices and percussion / accomaniment), but especially with Casio Chord enabled, it doesn’t give you very many keys to play the melody on.

p.s. The snippet of melody I keep repeating is from Louise Tucker’s “Dancing By Moonlight”, which itself is based on some classical composer’s melody, the identity of which is unknown to me.
