How do I use a Midi Keyboard when performing onstage or in practice?

I Know doesn’t produce sound etc but i would like to know how i can use my new keyboard at practice with my band and onstage performing. I run the keyboard via USB on my sony vaio laptop and want to know how i link it to speakers or an amp ?? so that everyone can hear the sound , If anyone can help it would be much appreciated as i have a gig in two weeks .

Thankssss

I really don’t recommend trying to use your laptop’s sound card as an output for a stage performance or brand practice. it will be a very weak signal.

You’ll need to look at getting something like the that allows and you can run your outs into the mixer form the Mbox 2. That will give a much more quality sound.

Also get Reason. That’s the way to go with a MIDI Keyboard and stage performance.

FRESH new Midi Keyboard (M-Audio Axiom 25)

Whats good fam? I recently picked up an M-Audio Axiom 25 midi with the drum pads. I have been using it for 6 days straight and, so far, its pretty sick. With the pads AND the , you get the . I might be making some of my upcoming beats if I get any good with this, but for now, Im just gonna use other beats.

This keyboard is straight USB, and I got it for $170, if your looking into getting a midi with drum pads, I would highly recommend this one. The Axiom also has a 49 key for like $250 which is also real nice.

By the way, the beat I showed you guys was my first beat ever, so if it sucks, don’t hate on it. More beats are soon to come.

Thanks for watching.

If anyone knows how to chop up samples in garageband, give me a holler.

How can I use a MIDI keyboard with Reason?

I just got Reason 4.0 on my computer, which runs Windows Vista. There is only so much I can do with Reason right now, so I want to get a keyboard to connect. What are the guidelines I need to follow? Do I need to buy software so my computer will recognize the ? I’m confused as to what I need to do, or are most keyboards simply plug and play? I think I’ll buy one of the M-Audio ones.

If you buy a MIDI keyboard with a USB port then you are good to go. Simply connect and use it.
If you get a MIDI keyboard without USB then you’ll need a MIDI interface to connect between your on the keyboard and the USB port on your computer. You can get them starting at $30.
The third option also requires an adapter cable. A MIDI to Gameport/MIDI (if your sound card has this port). Its a 15 pin port usually painted gold or grey.
All the keyboards these days come with an USB port. M-Audio are my favorite ones. The Axiom 61 being my favorite.
