(I wasn’t planning on adding Winter at the end but it just sort of happened, so it’s a bonus: a bit rough, but there.)

The featured video for this month is Juarez from To Venus and Back melded with You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette:

I love Juarez because of what Tori does with it when she plays it live. The album version is a bit cold and passionless but she really brings it to life both with band (as either herself or Clyde) and solo. Her mesmerizing key change at the end of her solo piano Juarez was the main inspiration for me to play it that way. Check it out if you love Juarez as much as I do! Beware though, the video received some random hate and a 1-star rating. It’s not for the feint of heart or anyone who has trouble understanding Tori or Juarez itself.

Here Koko tries out a new, flexible, electronic keyboard, and improvises a little tune (music and rhythm) while Penny records it. When Penny plays back the tune, Koko seems to like what she hears, signing “Koko love.”

Like sign language, music can be another dimension of interspecies communication. It’s another window into the mind, heart and soul of another being, and lets us share something that’s universal — joy.

Lesson: Gorillas aren’t much better than humans at creating music without taking lessons first.

oki.. heres a tutorial for configuring the ez drummer to work with virtual midi keyboard. Pls reply if it was helpful.. and if smth doesn’t work let me know so i can fix this tutorial.

You need to download ez drummer
Its not a stand-alone program. You will need for example acid pro 6 to use it
I am using acid pro 6

Download virtual midi controller v2.x

-when you go to virtual midi controller u see a text: “microsoft GS wavetable SW”
Click on that text and it opens a pop up menu, choose virtual midi controller.

Now go to acid pro 6:
go to Insert – Soft Synth – VSTi Preferences
Go to MIDI tab.
There are hardware ports for midi track playback and input.
You should find a check box for Virtual Midi Controller hardware port in the MIDI input list. Check the box.

Go back to Virtual midi controller. You should see letters TRK on the top right corner. Activate T and K. (K makes the keyboard “global” so the controller runs on the background while you are using ez drummer)

You can edit the keys on the virtual midi controller. For example i made the bassdrum the letter ‘b’. To do this push the ‘C IN’ on your virtual midi controller. This opens the keyboard layout. Right click the letter ‘b’. Fill in the data 1 fields for both, down and up functions. Data 1 down value is 34, Data 1 up value is 34. You’re done.

The virtual controller sometimes bugs and doesn’t work on ez drummer. This is usually fixed by restarting the controller while the ez drummer is running.
