Anionn – Toon track EZ drummer test 2 using virtual midi keyboard

I had problems getting this to work. Took me about 6 hours to find a good virtual midi that runs in background mode and has a “global ” feature and key editing.

I’m using:
toontrack ez drummer
acid pro 6
Virtual midi controller v 2.x demo
camtasia studio

oki.. heres a tutorial for configuring the ez drummer to work with virtual midi keyboard. Pls reply if it was helpful.. and if smth doesn’t work let me know so i can fix this tutorial.

You need to download ez drummer
Its not a stand-alone program. You will need for example acid pro 6 to use it
I am using acid pro 6

Download virtual midi controller v2.x

-when you go to virtual midi controller u see a text: “microsoft GS wavetable SW”
Click on that text and it opens a pop up menu, choose virtual midi controller.

Now go to acid pro 6:
go to Insert – Soft Synth – VSTi Preferences
Go to MIDI tab.
There are hardware ports for midi track playback and input.
You should find a check box for Virtual Midi Controller hardware port in the list. Check the box.

Go back to Virtual midi controller. You should see letters TRK on the top right corner. Activate T and K. (K makes the keyboard “global” so the controller runs on the background while you are using ez drummer)

You can edit the keys on the virtual midi controller. For example i made the bassdrum the letter ‘b’. To do this push the ‘C IN’ on your virtual midi controller. This opens the keyboard layout. Right click the letter ‘b’. Fill in the data 1 fields for both, down and up functions. Data 1 down value is 34, Data 1 up value is 34. You’re done.

The virtual controller sometimes bugs and doesn’t work on ez drummer. This is usually fixed by restarting the controller while the ez drummer is running.

How I Play Drums On A MIDI Keyboard (Part 1 of 3)

Quick demo of how I play drums with a MIDI keyboard.

Part 1 focuses on the drum layout (kick, snare, cymbals). Youtube cut the other half, so I’ll re-record that as Part 2.

Casio PT-100 keyboard (NOT circuit-bent!)

Here I give a quick (and quite amateurish — I am not a good keyboard player by any means!) demonstration of my Casio PT-100 keyboard. It is ALL ORIGINAL and NOT modified or “circuit bent” in any way, unlike almost all the other Casio keyboards you’ll find shown on YouTube!

From the late ’80, the PT-100 was one of the last and most advanced Casio keyboards to use exclusively -pulse squarewave sounds… *not* FM synthesis or digital samples! It also features Casio Chord with percussion accompaniment, which also makes some very nice retro-style synthesized electronic sounds, especially the “zizz” sound of the hi-hat cymbal.

I just wish they made a bigger keyboard with the same electronics, because I really like its sounds (both keyboard voices and percussion / accomaniment), but especially with Casio Chord enabled, it doesn’t give you very many keys to play the melody on.

p.s. The snippet of melody I keep repeating is from Louise Tucker’s “Dancing By Moonlight”, which itself is based on some classical composer’s melody, the identity of which is unknown to me.
