i have all three …
i have all three korg nano products, the padkontrol is cool but i have to admit akai’s looks way cooler but the XY pad and extra pads on the nano help out, it looks like akai doesn’t have an answer to the nanokontrol but as far as this item goes i think it kicks the nanokeys ass! i had to return the first nanokey i owned for keys popping off and the one they replaced it with had the same problem with keys easily falling off. this one looks sturdier! im getting both of akai’s new controllers
I have the NanoKey …
I have the NanoKey and NanoKontrol. I think the NanoKontrol is better than Akai’s control/pad because the Nano has 9 sliders and 9 knobs 18 assignable mini buttons (two for each slider/knob column), and a transport control area for hitting play/pause/stop/etc. But yeah, the NanoKey sucks terribly. So I say. Get the Akai Keyboard, and the Korg Control device. Best of both worlds!
I tried the korg …
I tried the korg for about a day. Took that TOY back, it was a joke. I’m gonna see how this akai
works out.
I keep hearing the …
I keep hearing the keys on the Akai are way better. The Korg keys are supposed to feel like your spacebar rotated 90 degrees and are cheap. Black keys on the Korg aren’t raised either. I’d go with the Akai.
Between the LPK, the LPD, and the Samson Go Mic, laptop composing is easy as it’s ever been
Yeah, that crossed …
Yeah, that crossed my mind as well actually. But, I’d have to use a USB hub as well (as I need 2 USB connections, one for power and one for midi). I’m not sure the USB interface could cope with that? Also, it becomes a bit tedious at that point. This is what I’d need: A mini-usb to usb adapter, a usb hub, a usb to midi adapter and a usb power adapter. I’m not sure if this would actually work in practice or if the LPK can handle it. I think I might contact Akai about this. Thanks for the feedback

you could take an ordinary mobile phone charger thats 5v (the same voltage as a usb plug) and find which cables are for power in the usb plug. should be easy enough if you take some time with it.

Im with you.
Reason 4 has RPG8, so i see no practical use for and on board arp, but hey somebody might.
Too bad all these …
Too bad all these midi keyboard are USB powered, otherwise I could use them on my hardware directly (i.e: no computer invoved). Now I have to get the bulkier midi keyboards. Reason is, I have very little space and this would be perfect. I could work around the usb -> midi issue with some mini usb -> usb converters and then a usb -> midi converter, but I would’nt know how to power the d*mn thing! Hopefully they’ll make compact keyboards like this with external power and midi out.

Why having an …
Why having an arpeggiator in a hardware box which is to be connected to a computer anyway? You can always use software arpeggiators. They should have assigned the buttons to more useful functions.
