Casio PT-87 Electronic Musical Instrument
In my second vlog I demonstrate the Casio PT-87 Electronic Musical Instrument. At the end of the vlog I play four more songs for people to identify. If you know the songs just post a comment and the first person to correctly identify them all once again will win nothing!
UPDATED:
lowbridgenc is once again the winner of the nothing prize. The real songs can be viewed at the links provided below.

I just scored one …
I just scored one of these in MINT condition! It looks brand spankin new. It has to of sat in a closet for over 20 years and BARELY got touched over the last 22 years. I even got ROM Card 551 with mine (the one that had NOT FOR SALE on the card). I got one new in 1987 myself and just snatched this MINT PT-87 up for $1.00 at a Thrift Store!!!! One Freakin Dollar!!!!!
Sweet song …
Sweet song selection!
Bring back the era of Casio “Toy” Keyboards!
The flickering was …
The flickering was just my crappy webcam messing up.
I don’t like them …
I don’t like them either. It just ruins a perfectly good keyboard in my opinion.
This means that …
This means that people who have Circuit Bent the PT-87 have added haadphone jacks when they modify them. I don’t know about you, but I really don’t like Circuit Bending at all, but I know that I’m in the very small minority on YouTube, so I try as hard as I can to stay clar away from circuit bending videos.
The PT-82 also …
The PT-82 also plays that accending scale when you power it up, the good thing about that scale is it give you an idea of how good your batteries are, the lower the pitch of the scale, the flatter your batteries are, or you’re using the wrong AC Adaptor. What’s the deal with the flickering light in the room at the start of the video? I love these keyboards, I wish I had owned a PT-8X series keyboard as a child, but instead I had a Casio SA-40.
I live in England …
I live in England near Liverpool so I had the Rom that came with it (World songs is I remember) and then my parents got me a Beatles Melody ROM pack which was delightful. Mine still works and I had some wonderful times with my keyboard. If I remember rightly the other colours were white and grey!
The PT-82 was sold …
The PT-82 was sold in the US as well. The only differences between it and the PT-87 are the color and the PT-87 doesn’t have a headphone jack.
My best friend has …
My best friend has a Casio PT-82, and it appears to be the same as the PT-87. I’m beginning to wonder if the PT-82 was known as the PT-87 in the US. I believe he still has the unit.
omg!! I had this …
omg!! I had this keyborad when I was a child! I want it now! D=
I remember reading …
I remember reading somewhere that the reason the “Separate Ways” video is so corny is that Journey didn’t think too highly of music videos so they just did something silly for that video.
And I remember you saying you thought the keyboard in the cover to “Final Countdown” sounded like a PT-80 so I thought I’d give it a shot in this video since the instruments on a PT-87 sound the same. The clarinet does sound similar to what they used.
Just the two.
Just the two.
Yeah, I always knew …
Yeah, I always knew it just as the theme to Beverly Hills Cop, but since you pressed for the song name, I went looking. All good songs, btw, though the video for “Separate Ways” is pretty corny.
(BTW, once I heard you play the intro to “The Final Countdown”, I immediately thought that that terrible cover group should hire you to tour and fire the other dude. That PT-87 would sound even better live with them.)
Yay, the Final …
Yay, the Final Countdown and Axel F (I don’t have them on my iTunes at work, no… *cough*). Do you have many keyboards, or just the two?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Technically song 3 …
Technically song 3 is called “Axel F.” but that’s close enough. Here’s some more nothingness to add to your trophy case.
Links to all of the above songs and the songs played by the ROM pack have now been added to the video description.
Let’s see if I get …
Let’s see if I get more nothing! Here goes:
1. Separate Ways–Journey
2. The Final Countdown–Europe
3. Axel Foley Theme (from Beverly Hills Cop)
4. Out of Touch–Hall & Oates
Great!
Great!
Thanks!
Thanks!
Great playing on …
Great playing on the keyboard!
I also like how the keyboard determines how well you played it!
