So many memories… :)

Casio SK-1 (1985):
5 PCM tones: piano, brass ensemble, trumpet, synth drums, human voice
3 additive synth tones: flute, pipe organ, jazz organ

Yamaha VSS-200 (1988):
4 voices, 8-bit sampling, 100 FM tones, 9 : loop, u-turn, reverse, FM, AM, fuzz, echo, level and pitch

    Actually, the YM2612 is newer than the YM3812. Yamaha produced a range of FM synthesizer chips for different budgets. The most popular is the YM2151 which was used in a lot of Arcade games and the DX-9/DX-21/DX-27/DX-100 Keyboards.

    Ha! Ha! I remember the Yamaha! my first encounter with a sampling keyboard circa 1987! Hearing to that demo brought back some memories! Listening to it now makes me think of Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega! (wonder if it used Yamaha FM chips?) And as for the SK1, I’m not familiar with that keyboard but straight away could think of 2 Acid House tracks that used that rhythm section!

    Still have my old Casio SK-1 in the closet lol dont do much with it now but still works like new and looks like new too. Great little keyboard.I like the sampling you can do with the built in mic and line in i think? Nice Demo of both machines.

    You’re lucky to have owned one at all, I had a Casio SA-40 when I was 11, in my opinion the SA-40 is a peice of compared to the SK-1.

    Ive had at least 4 casio sk-1 keyboards in my lifetime. 3 were stolen and i sold the fourth one to a equipment collector. I miss that thing!! LOL!!!
