Hing Hon EK-001 square wave keyboard
This is the Hing Hon EK-001, a tiny musical keyboard from the ’90s that looks like a toy, but has a very interesting sounding squarewave tone generator, making it sound very much like the sound chip in a Commodore 64 or Atari 8-bit computer. More info here:

My favorite sound on it is the “horn” sound, the last one shown in the video — the intermodulation distortion between the two voices is really thick and massive sounding for such a small keyboard. The video I made was originally much longer, including me playing around instead of just running through the demo song, but my video capture card screwed it up. I’ll have to record another video of it.

the only place ive ever seen one of these available NEW was at our local amusement park, it was one of the prizes in the arcade. i have one, but i got it at a thrift store. i dont think there were any stores or anything that sold them straight up, i think they were probably only available through some kind of prize distribution catalog. just a guess? in any case, the overall build quality is absolute garbage, but the sounds are incredible. i always loved mine. no idea where it is now…

I had that keyboard when I was 7, I got it for my birthday, I remember that song too, and If I remember correctly, it also had a passive Mic jack on the back that allowed you to connect any other 3.5 mm jack into it (tape, Cd, ect). I believe that was 2001 – 2002.

OK, that was a dumb question, but I was curius, I thought there may be a chance the keyboard was made in Taiwan or Hong Kong or somewhere else in Asia, but that doesn’t matter, I’m just glad nobody ridiculed me for asking.
