Is there a big difference between these Yamaha keyboards?
I want to learn to play the piano and am thinking of getting a keyboard. I found these two, and am not sure if the more expensive one is worth it.
Here is the first one, it costs $179.99

ok so.. the advantage of the second on is it has an octave and a half more keys than the less expensive one. the more expensive one has a mod wheel and the cheap one doesn’t. if you are a beginer i suggest buying the cheaper of the two because the 61 keys of the cheaper piano iwill be more than sufficient for what you will be learning. as for the sound quality they are THE SAME!!! So my advice is go for the second one and make sure to also buy a sustain pedal like this one

I have the second one and it is just as good as expensive ones.

I don’t CLICK on links provided by others. If you can’t be bothered to give me some basic information, then I’m not going to bother to look at the links.
ALL current Yamahas have a single button you can press that takes you directly to the GRAND PIANO MODE… it’s right there on the dashboard.. it’s marked "PIANO".. It is a very good and accurate piano sound and being able to go directly from ANY selected voicing to piano mode is sheer genius on someone’s part at the factory.
BUT if you want to learn piano, then you need the 88 KEY MODELS and you can get those with the accent pedals for about $1000 with all accessories.. OR.. you can just buy one of the electronic pianos.
I recently bought a YPG-535 from Music123 to keep in the office and have really been using it because it’s just a great keyboard. You can buy one for about $500 and add in another $100 for accessories to have a very respectable electronic piano.
BTW.. I have a ROLAND G-8 in the studio and use it for concerts and I’m not about to give THAT up for the new keyboard.
If you want CRAP then go ahead and buy something for less than $200.. if you want something USABLE then you need to spend at LEAST $500 to $800

If you are going to take piano lessons from a teacher who uses a real piano in the studio, then you will need to practice on an instrument that FEELS like a real piano. No matter how well you can play the exercises at home, your fingers will fumble them when you try to play on a real piano keyboard if all of your practice was on a synth-style keyboard.
Don’t ask me how I know.

The difference is the number of keys it has and both of these still dont have the equivallent to a normal piano. If you’re going to do piano lessons- you need a real piano or an electric piano the reason is the keys arent waited and you wont have a pedal.

Klay is right. You either need a real piano or a weighted keyboard. For a weighted keyboard, one of the best bangs for you buck is a Kurzweil PC2X.
