how to connect keyboard (musical instrument) to my laptop and record?

The keyboard must have either USB, Firewire or MIDI capability. If it’s from the 90s, i’m guessing it has MIDI.
In this case you need to get a USB to MIDI interface cable, or an external USB soundcard that had MIDI inputs.
You also need music sequencing/composition software such as Cubase, Reason, Logic or Ableton Live. Within the software you can configure your keyboard and MIDI to work properly with your computer.

    If your keyboard has a 3.5 headphone jack you should be able to go from it to the mick jack on the computer.
    Not shure about the programs you will need.

    Firstly what kind of keyboard is it and how old? If it’s new it should be quite simple with the right wires. As for recording on windows Mixcraft is pretty good and simple I think you can also use ACID pro or FL Studios
